Boston is New England’s largest city and one of Americas most historic. Full of Revolutionary War history, world renowned universities, amazing seafood, a beautiful harbour and much more, Boston is one of the best places in New England to visit.

Hotels in Boston

Charter Travel work with many hotels in Boston and some of our clients’ favourite Boston hotels include: the Boston Harbour Hotel – for its excellent location in Rowes Wharf on Boston's waterfront and excellent restaurants, The Colonnade Hotel – for its great location in central Boston and its rooftop pool, and The Boxer Hotel – for its historic building and closeness to the Freedom Trail.

The Freedom Trail

One of Boston's highlights is the Freedom Trail - a walking path dedicated to important sites from the American Revolution, even those who aren't invested or interested in American history will find this an interesting thing to do on one of your days in Boston. The Freedom Trail is a well-preserved pedestrian path that takes you through Boston's historic areas as well as the Boston Common and Public Garden. A redline painted along the ground leads you through the city to the important Revolutionary War sites: you'll visit the grave of statesman and revolutionary rebels at the Granary Burial Ground, you'll see the site of the Boston Massacre, and much more. The Freedom Trail is mostly flat though there are a few cobbled streets along the way. The Freedom Trail is largely a self-guided walk, though a guide can be arranged when booking with Charter Travel, or if you wish you could take the Old Town Trolley – a-hop-on-hop-off transportation system between the major sites with additional commentary.

Seafood

Our Boston holidays highlight is of course it's amazing seafood, particularly lobster rolls and clam chowder. the cities local residents are extremely proud of the amazing culinary experience in Boston, and no one can wholly agree on where the best lobster roll is served. For some traditional lobster shack style rolls then you’ll want to check out Belle Isle Seafood - this is a great experience all round due to their waterfront spot in Winthrop. A fan favourite among tourists and local Bostonians alike is Neptune Oyster - Neptune’s lobster roll is one of the most celebrated in Boston and a must try whilst in the city. Finally, for a contemporary twist on a classic seafood dish, why not checkout Yankee Lobster and sample one of their fried lobster rolls.

Boston Harbour

Though you won't be dumping in any tea, you'll certainly want to visit Boston Harbour whilst in the city. A free activity is the Boston's Harbourwalk: along the waterfront at Boston harbour there is 40 miles of pedestrian and bike friendly public access that you can stroll up and down to your heart's content. Across the water from Boston's Harbour there is also Boston Harbour Islands, a quick ferry ride from long Wharf will take you to Georges or Spectacle Island: Georges Island is home to a civil war-era Fort, and on Spectacle Island you can enjoy great hiking trails and a lovely beach. Though the crème de la crème of a trip to Boston Harbour is a Boston Harbour Cruise - sunset cruises are particularly popular, and you can learn about Boston's history, the Harbour Islands, the Boston Tea Party and much more. Whale watching tours also depart from Boston harbour, so if you are visiting in the summer months be sure to let us know if you wish to book onto a whale watching tour from Boston Harbour.
