Molokini Crater Snorkelling and Turtle Town

Snorkelling at Molokini Crater is an experience like no other and a must do for your Maui honeymoon or holiday – this untouched Crater is surrounded by coral reef that make for epic and stunning snorkelling. You will see a variety of multicoloured fish, but more importantly, turtles! Molokini Crater is located 3 miles off Maui’s southern shore and is Hawaii’s most popular snorkelling destination! Due to the volcanic nature of Molokini Crater, the snorkelling conditions are unprecedented in Hawaii and the ocean is crystal clear meaning you will be able to see so much marine life whilst snorkelling. To avoid a busy snorkelling experience, we recommend taking a sunrise tour (as hardly any boats offer this) meaning you will be one of the only tours visiting Molokini Crater at that time and will have the most freedom to swim around uninterrupted by other tours. Depending on your tour, you may even have the opportunity to SNUBA at Molokini Crater – this is where the boat crew take you down deeper than you could snorkel to get a close-up look at the reef and fish.

Getting to Molokini Crater is just as fun – you will take a catamaran or boat that speeds over the Hawaiian waters – this is the perfect time to relax and sunbathe, read a book or take in your amazing surroundings. Often, the boats even offer reef-safe sun cream to protect the fish and their habitat whilst you enjoy your snorkelling experience.

After snorkelling at Molokini you will then head over to Turtle Town – this is a stretch of ocean in Makena near the shore where turtles are in abundance. You could see many turtles whist in the water and even follow them as they swim around – be sure not to touch them though as they are protected! Seeing turtles swim in the open ocean is an experience like no other and we believe it is essential for any Hawaii holiday!
