New Zealand South Island Tours in detail

Days 1-3

Start from Christchurch and stop off at the International Antarctic Centre where you can experience the atmosphere of the last remaining untouched wilderness. Head off to visit New Zealand national bird, the Kiwi at the Willowbank Wildlife Reserve then take the Christchurch Gondola for a breathtaking view of the city below.

Days 3-4

Leave Christchurch and head on to Mount Cook where you can walk through the ice carved landscape or take a scenic flight (weather permitting) before watching the stars far from the city lights, perfect for viewing the heavens.

Days 4-5

Head to Dunedin, founded by Scottish settlers, and the Otago Peninsula which is home to the yellow-eyed penguin, the rarest in the world. Be sure to visit Larnach Castle, New Zealand's only authentic castle. Visit Speight's Brewery or Cadbury World. Dunedin also has great beaches and great nature walks.

Days 5-7

Depart Dunedin and travel across to Te Anau, gateway to the Fiordland National Park. Here you can visit the Glow Worm caves, do some fishing or have a game of mini-golf.

Days 7-8

Travel along one of the world's finest drives, the road to Milford Sound, which passes the Mirror Lakes and through the one mile long Homer tunnel. Cruise on the serene waters of this natural wonder. View majestic waterfalls, sheer cliffs and Mitre Peak. Return to Te Anau for the evening.

Days 8-10

Today journey to the alpine town of Queenstown. From here, your days can be filled with one adventure after another; pan for gold at Arrowtown, go jetboating on the Shotover River, go horse riding, not forgetting A J Hackett Bungy. For those who enjoy something more relaxed, Queenstown is also a destination for gourmet food, golf and spa treatments.

Days 10-11

Spend a leisurely day getting to Wanaka and explore the natural surrounds taking in the local wineries, Pinot Noir is the speciality of the region.

Days 11-15

This town is renowned for its fresh fish and the friendliness of its welcome, it is considered by many to be a 'jewel in the crown' of the South Island.

"Many thanks for your effort in arranging the Disney holiday for us. It was superb and the accommodation, restaurant recommendations, location and everything else was spot on. We had a little hiccup with rental car collection, I thought it was downtown but it was on Magic Kingdom. Nothing in the scheme of everything else though.

We found the dining plan great and fitted in well with the family and in laws. California Grill on Mother's Day was great. The free visit back to view the Magic Kingdom fireworks at 10 that night topped off the day.

Wolfgang Puck have a gem in Downtown with an excellent counter serve. Recently opened. We stumbled on Raglan Road Downtown too. A lively joint with Irish dancing. Food was one of the best and kids got invited up for a jig too!

The weather was hotter than expected but we didn't complain. A little drop of rain on one morning and night so did well avoiding the storms I remember as a kid "
